Since November 19, 2020, Sony has been marketing the PlayStation 5, which is already approaching the mark of 20 million copies sold. This is the console that succeeds the PS4 and competes with the Xbox Series X from Microsoft. The PS5 is available in two versions: one without a disc drive at $399 and one with one at $499.
Today, the PlayStation 5 is a very difficult console to find in stores, due to demand outstripping supply and a shortage of certain key components. This situation frustrates those who are looking for one. If you’re lucky enough to get your hands on one, here are some great games and accessories to get the most out of your new console.
The best PS5 games to play right now
- Elden Ring
Available since the end of February 2022, Elden Ring is one of the highest rated games in history (an impressive 96 out of 100 posted on the Metacritic aggregator). After the flamboyant Dark Souls trilogy, FromSoftware brilliantly manages to integrate its demanding formula into an open world. The result is an incredible sense of freedom and a clever way to better master the difficulty. Stuck in front of a boss? Turn back: Elden Ring has a thousand and one more things to show you.
- Horizon Forbidden West
Horizon Forbidden West is the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn. We still find the very charismatic Aloy, who takes part in an SF epic. The universe remains the main strength of this sequel, with a big work on the reproduction of a very credible futuristic world. It also benefits from the power of the PlayStation 5 to push the graphic limits. The Guerrilla Games studio has recently updated the game so that the performance mode is the best possible experience.
The real exclusives of the PS5 can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Returnal belongs to this popular category. Beware though, Returnal is a demanding title and a real challenge for those who venture into it. Once you’ve overcome the initial obstacles, Returnal delivers its full potential, built around an exhilarating gameplay that recalls the best arcade experiences. As an added bonus, it makes great use of the DualSense controller’s capabilities.
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
You probably won’t play anything nicer on PS5, in 2021. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is one of the few true exclusives of the console (read: the game is not available on PS4). This status guarantees that the power of the console is well exploited to offer flamboyant graphics. Simply put, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is as stunning as a modern day animated film. That is to say. Behind the beautiful plastic is an incredible experience. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart goes at a great pace and offers an efficient adventure, with a mastered gameplay. Only the story is a bit behind.
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Looking for a game that will blow your mind? Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is the title for you. With its multiple lighting effects and ray tracing display, Insomniac Games’ spin-off is a great showcase for the PS5. The gameplay is pleasant from start to finish and you have a great time walking through the streets of New York with Miles Morales. Very often, we ask for more.
- Astro’s Playroom
Astro’s Playroom is the game to try first when you start your PlayStation 5. Offered with the console, it gathers several platform levels designed to highlight all the features of the DualSense controller (haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, microphone, touchpad, gyroscope…) It also serves as a magnifying glass on the rich history of PlayStation, which started in the early 90s. As a bonus, it’s cute and full of good ideas.
